Biomech and Trojan Mech Project

This project what a really great learning curve to fully explore a design from early concepting and painting, to sculpting and modeling, to lighting and rendering.
Photoshop, Zbrush, Maya, Mental Ray and Arnold renders

Early development sketches for the main character; I wanted a strong biomechanical jump suit that had a sense of weight and absurd strength,  worn by a small but tough woman with a bit of punk attitude. I thought that the juxtaposing of these elements could make for an interesting storyline to work with. The idea was to create a suit that has symbiotic attachments to the brain stem and muscle fibers of the wearer, basically giving them a functional exoskeleton that enhanced their physical capabilities. A slender punk woman was the perfect opposite of a company-manufactured military suit to wield it's explosive power.

First revision final linework

Starting the painting process and continuing to update the design, get material reads, enhance the functionality and further the strength of the concept.

Trojan Mech and Pilot
Here is early development sketches of the pilot before she acquired the biomech suit.

The idea behind the Trojan Mech was to have a very powerful and energetic mech that could be piloted from the inside, but also function on its own AI to make its own tactical decisions. The idea was based off the Greek Trojan Horse; though this Trojan enters the city in which it was built and destroys it itself. It would be extremely fast, strong and powerful, hopping around buildings and blowing shit up, traversing a city with a strong military force trying unsuccessfully to stop it.

Sketches and development of the pilot and the Trojan Mech

Some environment paintings to get a feel for the corporate entity that the 2 characters rebel against, and the world that the story takes place in. The bottom panel of the first page shows an early concept of the Trojan Mech storming the city with an army of converted tanks.

Final concept painting of the Trojan Mech and the pilot (before she has been assimilated by the biomech suit).

Early test renders of the Trojan Mech as I move forward through the modeling process

High-res Zbrush head sculpt of the pilot character

Final comps and renders of some scenes of the biomech and the Trojan mech together. These were rendered using Arnold.
They were both created by a futuristic corporate military industrial complex, but found each other and created a sort of rebellious relationship to destroy their creators.

Zbrush Orthographic Renders of the 2 characters

This project was an incredible learning experience and gave me creative control from sketching to painting to modeling/sculpting the final assets. Now onto the next project.
